If you want to come to Australia to conduct business, you may be eligible for a business visa. There are several types of business visas available for temporary stay but there are also business visas available for permanent residency

This page gives an overview of Australian visitor and temporary or provisional business visas.

Temporary Visas

Business Innovation and Investment (Provisional) (Subclass 188) visas are for people who want to own or manage a new or existing business in Australia. It is also for people who want to invest in an Australian business. There are three streams, or categories, in this visa type:

Business Innovation

To own or manage a new or existing business.

Investor

To make an investment of at least AUD 1.5 million in an Australian state or territory; or

To maintain a business and investment activity in Australia after the original investment has matured.

Significant Investor

To invest at least AUD 5 million into complying investments in Australia; and

Want to maintain business and investment activity in Australia after the original investment has matured

Business Talent (Subclass 132) visas are for people who want to own or manage a new or existing business in Australia and are nominated by an Australian state or territory government agency. There are two streams, or categories, in this visa type:

  • Significant Business Stream for high-calibre business owners who wish to expand to Australia
  • Venture Capital Entrepreneur Stream for individuals who have sourced venture capital funding from a member of the Australian Venture Capital Association Limited (AVCAL)

Business Visitor

Business Visitor Visas are for short-term travel to Australia for the purpose of conducting business. The following are Business Visitor Visas:

ETA (Business Entrant) (Subclass 956 and 977)

Only for travellers from eligible countries.

eVisitor (subclass 651)

For travellers from the European Union and other designated European countries.

Business (Short Stay) (Subclass 456) Visa

For those not eligible for an ETA visa.

Sponsored Business Visitor (Short Stay) (Subclass 459) visa

For persons who have an approved sponsor in Australia.

APEC Business Travel Card

For persons from countries participating in the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) region.
